The global financial crisis of 2008 destroyed Italy’s economy. It has been struggling since with GDP contraction in five out of the seven fiscal years. The major challenges faced by the Italian insurance market are the uncertainty regarding regulatory developments taking place in the country. “D.d.l. Concorrenza”, which is currently being debated in the Italian parliament, aims to improve competition and transparency for customers, with a significant focus on the insurance industry. Total written premiums in 2015 rose considerably.
